Abstract

It is expected that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will become a key component in future generations of wireless communication networks for various reasons, such as deployment flexibility, dynamic trajectory and maneuverability, data transfer rate at a higher level, establishing a connection on the line, etc. The use of UAVs as mobile base stations, relay nodes, and observation data collection attract considerable attention due to new trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent transport systems (ITS), etc. We consider integrated aerial and ground wireless network and provide novel resource management frameworks in which resource sharing between aerial and ground networks as well as the UAV trajectory and placement is formulated as a learning optimization problem. As there has recently a great attention towards green communication as well as the energy limited nature of UAV networks, we also consider energy management in aerial and ground networks and propose novel energy harvesting models for the proposed system and optimize the average age of information (AoI) to reduce the delay in the communication network. To access the proposed schemes in a real scenario, we dedicated a research direction to the prototyping and test-bed implementation.
